[instiz] SM "LET'S PLANT TREES", FANS "START BY RESOLVING PHYSICAL ALBUMS TRASHING"

Recently, a general producer of a Big 3 agency told K-pop fans around the world to save the earth through a 'tree planting campaign', and some fans pointed out that it was 'greenwashing'.

The reason they criticized it as greenwashing is that in order to 'really' save the earth, the agency's strategy to induce excessive consumption of albums must be fundamentally changed.

SM Entertainment  executive producer Lee Sooman emphasized the importance of planting trees at the 'SM Sustainability Forum' held online on the 1st. Producer Lee Sooman said, "Now is the era of carbon neutrality, in which we must overcome the climate crisis and realize sustainability."

"Planting trees can reduce carbon emissions and prevent desertification," he explained. "So the tree-planting movement led by K-pop and hallyu, or the Korean Wave, can become a catalyst for a better, new future. In 2021, Mongolia announced it would plant 1 billion trees by 2030 and Saudi Arabia said it would reach net-zero emissions by 2050 and plant 50 billion trees. If a K-pop festival joins this initiative, we can bring fandoms and youth to these regions. If more people voluntarily take part in this movement, it will boost our mission in saving our earth, making it greener."

In response, 'K-Pop for Planet', a climate action platform for K-pop fans, posted on SNS on the 2nd, "Planting trees is great, but please pay attention to the album trash issue." In a phone call with News Penguin, campaigner Lee Dayeon of K-Pop for Planet, who is also a fan of aespa under SM, said, "Planting trees has been done voluntarily by fans for a long time. Rather than mentioning activities that are already being done, focus on what only the agency can change so that we can truly change."

In addition, she said, “When fans raised the issue of excessive album consumption from several years ago, there was no response, and talking about sustainability by planting trees is greenwashing.”

1. The #1 fandom who hates their own idols' company will forever be the SM fandom

2. They need to change their structure of selling album and to do this fundamentally, they need to get rid of the random systen first...

3. They need to cut it off with the randomization..

4. They need to ban randomized albums like they did in United Kingdom

5. They need to start by banning random photocards

6. And they need to stop with those "unreleased photocards"

7. No but if he was really thinking about environment that much, just don't release any physical albums in the futureㅋ

8. Does he ever think before speaking?

9. Before thinking about planting trees, have you ever thought of not cutting them in the first place...

10. I prefer digipack and Smini albums, the issue is the photobook. And their unreleased photocards. People are buying all those photobooks again and again just to get a fansign
