BTS's Jimin has made history as the first K-pop solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. As BTS's global fanbase continues to grow in influence, critics are divided on whether it's a result of the group's rallying fan army or if their music is actually doing well in the North American market.
 
According to the U.S. Billboard on April 4, the title track of Jimin's first solo album in 10 years, "Like Crazy," became the first K-pop solo artist ever to top the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 main singles chart. The song topped pop star Miley Cyrus' "Flowers," SZA's "Kill Bill," and country singer Morgan Whalen's "Last Night," among others.

This makes Jimin the first K-pop singer to reach the top of the Hot 100 both individually and as part of a group. In the entire history of the Billboard Hot 100, Jimin is also the first artist to have a hotshot debut (#1 in the first week of release) when leaving a group and going solo. Even Beyoncé, who topped that chart with her group Destiny's Child and solo after Jimin, didn't have a hotshot debut.
 
"I think it's meaningful because it's the first time in Billboard's history that a hotshot debut has been recorded," said Kim Do-heon, a pop music critic (member of the selection committee for the Korean Popular Music Awards), "but I think we need to wait and see the drop rate next week to see if it's due to the music itself being successful in the North American market or the BTS' Army fans coming together."
 
Until now, the highest ranking K-pop solo artist on the Hot 100 was Psy. "Gangnam Style," which became a global phenomenon in 2012, has been at No. 2 for seven consecutive weeks.
