"There was a show in Japan where a handsome man complimented an average woman by calling her "pretty" for 50 days"

"Kyoka, a 21-year-old test participant, has always had very low self-esteem about her appearance. She considered herself chubby and ugly, and was deeply hurt by a joke about her appearance made by a friend from school. As a result, she always wore a mask to cover her face."

"The producers suggest that she learn Italian for 50 days as a confidence booster, but they actually hired a half-Italian model as her instructor, who starts the class with a compliment rather than a lesson. Kyoka doesn't realize it's all an experiment.

The model talks to Kyoka every time they meet, complimenting her on her cute looks and personality and telling her that her Italian is getting better."

"After 50 days, Kyoka, who was always going around with a mask on, removed her mask"

"Kyoka used to be reluctant to have her picture taken, but now she enjoys taking selfies and has become more confident in her appearance. She also developed an interest in makeup and her personality brightened up a lot.

All this happened in 50 days"

1. On the other hand, calling someone ugly will really turn them uglier too. My family keeps calling me ugly and gaslighting me so my confidence dropped to the floor

2. ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ even though it's such a Japan-like experiment, I can relate to it. I can also relate to the fact that a compliment can really boost your confidence. My mom always call me pretty so I can also relate to the result of the experimentㅋㅋ큐ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

3. Her smile is pretty

4. Me too, when I was depressed, my confidence dropped to the floor and I was wearing a mask every time I went out so I can relate to her so much..... My best friend's help really pushed me to go out in the world. The comments here are talking about this being all an act and that she only needed to take off her mask but... Even if it was all acting, it's just a fact that compliments and encouragement can help build up others... I'd much rather watch a show like that than a bunch of twisted comments like yours

5. Wow what a good experiment

6. Wow I like this so much ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

7. A person's impression changes so much just with a change in expression. She went from feeling ashamed to smiling because of a compliment. She also took off her glasses because she felt more confident

8. Cute

9. Wow look at her bright her expression has gotten. And that wasn't in 5 years but only 50 days, I'm so shocked. Even if it's small, let's try complimenting people around us more

10. The power of words
