Minji's mother recounted, "Minji started her trainee life at Source Music when she was just 13, living alone in Seoul." As a parent, she wanted to check on her child, but parents were not allowed in the dorms. The first time she visited the dorm was during a move after a year. It was a shock—mold in corners, cockroaches everywhere. She said, "Thinking about Minji enduring such harsh conditions silently still breaks my heart."

It wasn't just the harsh environment that was tough; the endless waiting was more painful. Minji's mother recalled, "Like any trainee, Minji was left waiting indefinitely with no explanation or plan from Source Music. There was no promise of debut, no formation of a debut team, or any related plans shared."

Moreover, Minji, at 14, was made to work past 2 AM without any days off. "Even now, I vividly remember Minji calling me at night, scared and walking home alone," her mother recalled.

Despite her passion for academics, Minji faced pressures to drop out of school. Her mother said, "When Minji was about to enter high school, the company suggested not attending a regular high school as it would be hard to balance with training." Minji cherished school as a break from the tough training. With no future plans from Source Music, Minji decided to continue her education. The company said she might be able to attend an arts high school, but it was too late for proper preparation. She managed to get in by finding a teacher herself. Her mother emphasized, "Minji's strong will to achieve her dream helped her endure."

Later, Source Music became a HYBE label. Hopes for Minji's debut rose, but she found out about a famous celebrity joining HYBE's girl group. Minji's mother said, "In the process, Minji was at risk of being discarded without any explanation. However, Min Hee-jin stayed committed to the trainees and helped them debut as NewJeans."

Minji's mother stated, "We signed with ADOR and were happy that Min Hee-jin was involved. We've never thought about leaving ADOR." She added, "HYBE has been the problem, harassing us and spreading strange rumors about us and NewJeans. It's shocking to see a big company attack Min Hee-jin personally."
