On that day, Director Kim Won-seok said, “There’s a new line that resonated in ‘My Mister.’ Manager Park Dong-hoon says, ‘This is what a company is like. It doesn’t grow in the order of those who can’t work. You get cut in the order of how bothersome you are.’ Since you’re all fans of Lee Sun-kyun, I wanted to share this.
For directors and actors like me, the company is this stage, and the ones who cut are the public. Lately, I’ve been thinking about how hard it must be for those who are cut by the public or who are shunned or criticized.
Lee Sun-kyun passed away last year while being investigated for drug-related charges, at the age of 48. Director Kim continued, “I personally think that the media outlets, prosecutors, and police that put out nonsensical articles are tolerated by the public. If such articles didn’t generate outrage, they wouldn’t have been published.
And we, the public, are the absolute power in the media industry today. It seems like the public is quite aware of that these days. What I want to say is that before you cut someone off, please give them a little more opportunity. Even if they have committed a crime, I believe there can still be a chance. This isn’t a crime, and there’s no evidence of one, yet it has become a situation that annoys the public.”
He added, “It breaks my heart to think that the drama I proposed to Sun-kyun might have been a burden for him. I apologize for bringing this up to those of you who are completely unrelated. I just hope for a little more caution.
Actors are truly vulnerable individuals. This industry cannot exist without your support. We should hold accountable those who published such ridiculous articles and leaked false investigation information, using the power of the public.”
