NJZ has alleged that HYBE treated them unfairly compared to LE SSERAFIM, a group under a different HYBE label.
On the morning of the 7th, the Seoul Central District Court’s 50th Civil Division held a hearing regarding ADOR’s injunction request against NJZ members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein. The injunction aims to preserve ADOR’s status as their agency and prohibit the members from signing independent advertising contracts.
During the hearing, NJZ’ legal representatives argued, “HYBE’s large-scale media manipulation, its abandonment of NJZ to build a new girl group, the plagiarism controversy surrounding IILLIT, and its fallout with Dolphiners Film all occurred between 2023 and 2024. No other artists under HYBE’s labels have experienced such treatment except for NJZ.”
They further stated, “HYBE’s other labels have consistently engaged in unfair practices, yet ADOR has neither the ability to prevent such actions nor the means to address them afterward. If this had happened at another company, it would not have been ignored as it was with NJZ.”
Specifically, NJZ mentioned Source Music’s LE SSERAFIM, claiming “there was clear discrimination.”
According to NJZ, “HYBE initially promised that NewJeans would debut as ‘HYBE’s first girl group.’ Former CEO Min Hee-jin joined HYBE under this premise. However, after NewJeans’ debut evaluation in March 2021, HYBE neglected them until September 2021.”
They continued, “During this period, Source Music recruited Sakura, Kim Chaewon, and Huh Yunjin and debuted LE SSERAFIM first, without any explanation. Additionally, member Hyein was selected as an ambassador for a specific brand, but suddenly, LE SSERAFIM was also named as ambassadors. When we inquired with the brand, they confirmed that HYBE had requested it and assumed HYBE had consulted with us first. The brand even apologized for the situation.”
This injunction hearing marks the first legal proceeding since NJZ declared the termination of their exclusive contracts with ADOR in November last year. In January, ADOR filed for the injunction to prevent the members from signing independent advertisement contracts or engaging in activities outside the agency.
At the time, ADOR stated, “It is regrettable that the members are attempting to engage in independent entertainment activities, such as soliciting new stage names, before receiving a legal ruling. This could be a serious breach of contract.”
In response, the members countered, “Even after terminating our contracts, we tried our best to complete our remaining schedules and contracts amicably, avoiding any disputes and ensuring that no stakeholders were harmed. However, seeing ADOR and HYBE refuse to cooperate and instead cause damage to many people, including us, through improper means, we have decided not to remain silent any longer. We will fight confidently in court to reveal the truth and hold ADOR and HYBE accountable.”
Following this, NewJeans changed their name to “NJZ” and launched their official social media accounts, signaling their independent path. They have also been included in the lineup for the Complex Live concert series in Hong Kong this March, where they plan to debut a new song under the name NJZ.
Both sides intensified their conflict in the lead-up to the injunction hearing, setting the stage for a prolonged legal battle.

1. I like both NJZ and Le Sserafim but after the scandal broke out, I quickly left the fandom which was the best decision I've ever made. I knew that the fight would last at least until next year
2. HYBE are seriously pathetic. NJZ, fighting
3. Isn't LE SSERAFIM having a comeback soon? Is the company trying to destroy them?ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹
4. They should've just pushed NJZ properly. Pathetic
5. Wow they really mentioned another group openly like that
6. Why are they doing this to LE SSERAFIM?
7. They will never be an end to their low acts. NJZ, fighting
8. NJZ had their ambassadorship taken and got plagiarized, they're the real victims. They're just talking about the harm they suffered, but people are out here acting like the ones who benefited are the real victims. Ridiculous.ã…‹ã…‹
9. NJZ fighting!!
10. To be honest, where is the discrimination? They even made Phoning for them. Isn't LE SSERAFIM the ones being discriminated against?
[theqoo] MEMBER HYEIN WAS ORIGINALLY CHOSEN AS THE AMBASSADOR OF A SPECIFIC BRAND, BUT SUDDENLY, LE SSERAFIM BECAME AMBASSADORS OF THE SAME BRAND
Hyein has been selected as a brand ambassador for a particular brand but...
Randomly, LE SSERAFIM were selected for that brand too.
And this was ADOR's side:
"CEO Min is unilaterally claiming that “Source Music leveraged the network established during NewJeans members’ ambassador contract process for their own benefit and should have sought ADOR’s prior consent.” However, the contract between the brand and Source Music was formed naturally as a result of the artist attending the brand’s fashion show, which led to a favorable relationship.
Additionally, before NewJeans’ Hyein signed as a global ambassador, BTS’s J-Hope had already been an ambassador for the brand, and prior to that, BTS as a group was the brand’s first-ever global ambassador. By the same logic, ADOR should have sought BigHit Music’s consent before signing their own contract with the brand."
Today in court, NJZ's side stated:
"After checking with the brand, it was confirmed that HYBE had approached them first. The brand had assumed that HYBE had naturally obtained ADOR’s consent and later apologized upon realizing this was not the case."
Previously, CEO Min Hee-jin also mentioned that emails had surfaced regarding issues related to the Brand Synergy Team and L brand.
