When the disastrous Justice tour ended in 2022, according to multiple sources with direct knowledge, Justin was bankrupt. He had received a $40 million advance but ended up owing $24 million to the concert promoter AEG after pulling out of the contract early.

Scooter's company, HYBE, agreed to cover the debt, and Justin signed a promise to repay HYBE over ten years. However, he made just one installment payment and then stopped paying.

According to sources close to Scooter, Justin's team called and said they had no money. A source from Justin's side said that Bieber’s business manager, Lou Taylor, reviewed the financial records and concluded that Scooter had been massively overpaid by $26 million in commissions.

HYBE conducted an internal audit and determined that Scooter had actually been underpaid in commissions, and that Justin owed him $1 million. Scooter reportedly forgave the debt, but Justin’s team believed the audit was corrupt and that HYBE was trying to cover things up.

HYBE then hired the independent accounting firm PwC, and after a six-month audit completed in April, PwC concluded that Justin actually owed Scooter close to $8.806 million. TMZ obtained the PwC audit report, which specifies the $8.806 million figure.

Sources close to Justin say his team did not contest PwC’s findings but conducted their own audit. However, they have not made those results public.
