Taeil, a former member of the idol group NCT who was investigated by the police on charges of s** offenses, admitted all charges of special aggravated r*** at his first trial.
The 26th Criminal Division (D) of the Seoul Central District Court held the first hearing on June 12 for Taeil and two other defendants, who are accused of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of S****l Crimes (special aggravated r***).
On that day, Taeil appeared in court dressed somewhat casually in black clothing, accompanied by the two other defendants. Taeil described his status, saying, “I was a singer but was expelled from the company, and I am currently doing some light part-time work.” His lawyer also stated, “Taeil is currently helping at a friend’s restaurant to support himself.”
The prosecution previously mentioned the facts of the indictment against Taeil, who was present as a defendant, and stated, "The defendants are friends and met the victim by chance at a bar in Itaewon at around 2:33 AM on June 13th, drank alcohol together, and later grabbed the victim, put her in a taxi, and took her to the defendants' residence in Bangbae-dong." "After that, from 4 AM to 4:30 AM that same day, they r****d the victim while she was lying down unconscious from drinking."
Afterwards, all three, including Taeil, admitted to the charges, and the prosecution sought a prison sentence of 7 years for all of them. Earlier, on February 28, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office's Women and Children Crime Investigation Division 1 indicted them without detention on charges of special quasi-r*** under the S****l Violence Punishment Act.
Taeil was reported to the police on June 13, 2024 by the victim, an adult female, A. After that, the police conducted the first summons investigation of Taeil on August 28, 2024, applied the charge of special quasi-r****, and sent Taeil without detention in September 2024. It is reported that there were no famous people other than Taeil among those who committed the crime together. If the charge is confirmed, he will be sentenced to at least 7 years in prison or life imprisonment according to Article 4, Paragraph 1 of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of S****l Crimes.
At the time, the Seoul Bangbae Police Station, which was conducting the investigation, requested arrest warrants for the three suspects in June 2024, but the court rejected the warrants, stating that since they admitted to the crime, there was no need for detention.
As a result of this case, Taeil was expelled from both NCT and his agency SM Entertainment. In October 2024, SM Entertainment announced, “The exclusive contract with Taeil was terminated as of October 15, 2024. Taeil is currently under criminal investigation by the prosecution, which constitutes grounds for contract termination. Moreover, we can no longer maintain trust in him as an artist, so by mutual agreement, the exclusive contract was terminated.”
What shocked people even more was that Taeil continued his activities, including a comeback, while hiding the fact that he was accused of s****l crimes. Taeil was reported to the police on June 13, 2024, and the police conducted their first summons investigation of him on August 28, 2024. SM Entertainment revealed they only became aware of the accusation around August.
However, the day after he was reported, on June 14, 2024, Taeil held an Instagram live broadcast communicating with fans. On his birthday, he said during the live, “Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday.
