On the 21st, WAKEONE stated, “There have been a series of posts on online communities recently regarding our company and our trainees, so we are sharing our official position,” adding, “Kim Geonwoo and Kang Woojin, who are currently appearing on Boys Fantasy 2 as individual participants, are in fact trainees under WAKEONE.”
Although Kim Geonwoo and Kang Woojin appeared on the show as independent trainees, they were actually affiliated with WAKEONE. Previously, Kim Geonwoo had been involved in controversy regarding his character. Notably, WAKEONE is a label under CJ ENM, the parent company of Mnet, which produces Boys Fantasy 2. The group ZEROBASEONE, which debuted from Boys Planet, is also under WAKEONE.
They continued, “Trainee Kang Wojin had been developing his skills at WAKEONE with the goal of becoming a singer-songwriter. His musical concept differed from that of the existing trainees preparing for the program, and he had no prior experience with professional idol training. Therefore, we determined it was more appropriate for him to appear as an individual rather than as part of the WAKEONE team.”
They added, “Although this decision was made to reflect each trainee’s individuality and musical concept, we sincerely apologize for causing confusion and concern to the production team, viewers, and fans. WAKEONE takes full responsibility for this matter and believes the two trainees’ efforts and aspirations deserve respect. After careful and extensive discussions aimed at making a responsible choice, WAKEONE has decided to terminate its trainee contracts with Kim Geonwoo and Kang Woojin by mutual agreement. Both participants will continue on the program as individuals, just as they did when they first applied.”
WAKEONE concluded, “However, we deeply regret that, as the agency, we were unable to fully fulfill our duty of care for Kim Geonwoo once he participated in the program as an individual. Although the trainee contract has ended, we will actively respond to any false claims related to Kim Geonwoo. Once again, we sincerely apologize for the disappointment and concern this situation has caused. Going forward, we will do our utmost to uphold the trust of our artists and fans with a more careful and responsible approach.”
