The decomposed body of a teenage girl was found in a car registered to rising American singer-songwriter David (D4vd), US media reported on the 17th (local time).
According to local broadcasters including ABC and KTLA, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office confirmed that the body found in the trunk of a vehicle at a Hollywood tow yard last week was that of a 15-year-old girl who had been reported missing.
The girl was last seen on April 5th of last year, when she was 13, in Lake Elginore, Riverside County, east of Los Angeles.
The girl's cause of d**th has not yet been determined.
The medical examiner said the body was "badly decomposed" and appeared to have been inside the vehicle for an extended period.
The vehicle had been parked at a towage area where city officials tow vehicles left on the street for more than 72 hours since May 5th. On May 8th, police were dispatched after towage yard workers reported a foul odor coming from the vehicle, and discovered the body in the trunk.
At the time, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson stated that the vehicle had never been reported stolen and that the owner was unknown.
Later, entertainment outlet TMZ and the New York Times (NYT), citing police sources, reported that the car was registered to singer David (real name David Anthony Burke).
David, 20, boasts millions of followers on social media and music platforms, released his debut album this year, and is currently touring North America and Europe.
Hollister and Crocs, brands that collaborated with David on advertising campaigns, have decided to remove him from their advertising, the New York Times reported, citing industry sources.
David's representatives have yet to comment on the incident.
