[marriage & in-laws] MY BOYFRIEND'S DUI AND MY BREAKUP DILEMMA

We've been dating for three years and were planning to get married next fall.

We've already booked all the important things like the wedding venue, photoshoot, etc.

We've been together for a little over three years, but in the last two years alone, my boyfriend has driven under the influence three times.

I know it was a huge mistake to overlook it at first, but since it was just once or twice when he'd had very little to drink, I ended up turning a blind eye.

But today, after drinking several bottles of soju and beer, he said he'd call a designated driver but ended up driving himself.

He was on the phone with me the entire time he was driving. I yelled at him, cursing, asking if he was crazy, telling him to stop immediately and call a driver. I said it countless times, but he didn't listen at all. He drove all the way home.

Setting aside how well our personalities match and all that, is it okay to call off the engagement just because of this one issue?

Leaving everything else aside, that one issue alone is enough reason to call off the engagement. You can tell a lot from just one thing. It's exactly the kind of case where someone can't change their bad habits and shows they have no potential

Drinking, causing accidents, injuring people. If it’s already happened three times, they'll never fix it. Drunk driving is like cheating. There may be people who've never done it, but no one does it just once. Don't put multiple people through that pain and get out now. If they cause even a serious accident, they can get prison time. Do you want to be the one tending to them in jail?
