The general consensus in the kpop spaces for the past decade has been " fx were so revolutionary and iconic, they broke barriers, they were trend setters " and more praise. Can I be honest? They were and are overrated.
You got 5 girls where only one was vocally gifted ( Luna ). Krystal was piss poor for a SM lead vocalist. I mean, compare her to other SM lead vocalists like Seohyun, Fany, Sunny, Dana, Stephanie, Seulgi, Winter ! She was bad ! Her biggest achievement was staring at the camera. Let's be honest, Hee Jin did the heavy lifting. She carefully curated every outfit catering to her color, body type and features so that we never saw her flaws.
Amber - her 'rap' was so cringe. Hyo, Irene and Ning are way better rappers, understand how to switch up their flow and phrasing to fit the mood of the song. She is worse than all the dozens of SM but gets coddled because she was 'not like the other girls'.
Vic and Sulli were pretty but they were useless in the studio. Vic is also bad at acting.
Their alleged revolutionary acts are corny at best and cringe at worst. They didn't write or produce anything like Bigbang or Block B. They got to work with European producers and did songs in genres that were native or popular in the gay or straight clubs from these nations. How is it iconic?
Like, did these girls go and vet these producers ? No, SM did. Did they come up with the visuals of their albums? No. They were the least talented in their agency and contributed little to nothing creatively but get praised more than others ! This is wrong !
Also, there is a line in the pink tape album in one of their filler tracks - ' all the pretty little princesses get out the way ' by Amber ! The irony ! Someone tell her that 3/5 of the group was pretty little dozen princesses lol and one femme-tw**k dozen as well.
