While scrolling through international sites like Koreaboo, which pull from viral tweets, shipper videos, TikToks, and etc, I realized K-pop fans are seriously obsessed with dating rumors. Just this week, they dropped two articles claiming Jennie’s dating Taehyung and Kai—wild, right? Before that, they were pushing stories about Wonbin dating Winter, Chaewon, Giselle, and Ningning, which is straight-up ridiculous. No way those queens are all sharing one guy, lol. Koreaboo’s articles just show how thirsty K-pop fans are for dating gossip. But idols and their agencies are super careful these days, dodging Korean media like pros—and maybe even paying them off to keep dating news under wraps. So, we’re left with literally zero confirmed idol dating stories.
With nothing real to go on, fans are out here making up their own rumors. I can’t totally blame them—things get boring without some juicy gossip. Idols are celebs, and a little scandal keeps people talking, keeps them relevant. Sometimes, dating news even hypes up an idol’s comeback, variety show, or new gigs, getting fans more engaged with their content. Fans who hate dating news are usually either shipping their fave with another idol or living in a fantasy where they’re the idol’s soulmate. And some K-pop fans often get frustrated when dating news overshadows an idol’s work. Once a rumor drops, the comments section turns into a circus of speculation about their love life, and suddenly their music, performances, or projects take a backseat. Those are the ones who lose it when dating rumors drop.
