[theqoo] EVEN BTS MISSED IT, MTV'S 'SONG OF THE YEAR', ROSE'S 'APT' RECEIVES IT... FIRST TIME IN KPOP

BLACKPINK member Rosé has won a major award at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), one of the four major U.S. mainstream music award shows.

On September 7, at the VMAs held at UBS Arena in New York, Rosé took home the ‘Song of the Year’ award for her duet song ‘Apartment (APT.)’ with pop star Bruno Mars.

This marks the first time a K-pop artist has ever won in this category. In 2021, BTS was nominated for the same award with their hit "Dynamite," but did not win.

Taking the stage in a gold dress, Rosé began her acceptance speech by saying, “I can’t believe this.” She continued, “First of all, I’m truly grateful to Bruno for believing in me and supporting me.” She added, “This moment feels like a reward for all the hard work we’ve put in, so I accept this award with joy.”

She also gave a shout-out in Korean to producer Teddy and her BLACKPINK members, saying:
“Teddy oppa, I won an award! BLACKPINK members, I won! Thank you always, I love you.”

Rosé made history at this year’s VMAs with a record-breaking 8 nominations, the most ever for a K-pop artist. Her song ‘Apartment’ alone earned 7 nominations, including ‘Video of the Year’, the night’s top honor, which is still awaiting announcement.
