Taking on the role of Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange
Hello, this is Park Jinyoung
As you may have seen in the news, I have taken on a role in the Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange, a body directly under the President.
As someone working in the entertainment industry, taking on a government role comes with a lot of pressure and concerns in many ways, so I thought about it deeply. However, I ultimately made the decision because I believe that K-pop is currently facing a truly special opportunity and it’s a moment we must make the most of.
Back in 2003, when I went to the US without a clear plan and handed out promotional materials about our artists to American record labels...
In 2009, when Wonder Girls became the first Korean act to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart...
And even now, my dream has always been the same:
For K-pop to be loved all around the world.
As someone who has worked on the ground all this time, I’ve often thought there needed to be more institutional support. So I’ll do my best to organize those areas effectively and ensure that practical support reaches where it's needed. I’ll also work hard to create more and better opportunities for the next generation of artists.
And more than just promoting our culture, I will strive to make K-pop a platform where people from around the world can understand one another and engage in meaningful exchange.
Since this is a decision I made after a lot of thought, I kindly ask for your advice and support.
I would also like to sincerely thank Minister Choi Hwi-young of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, who has agreed to take on this role together with me.
