An industry insider shared, “For example, during contract negotiations, we may agree on an appearance fee, but sometimes, due to circumstances, we simply can't offer more, even if we want to. There are times when we think, ‘Good thing we didn’t pay more,’ but there are also times when we regret it and think, ‘We should’ve paid more. Why did we try to cut corners?’”
They continued, “Lee Byunghun definitely falls into the latter category. To put it bluntly, he’s an actor who’s worth even 1 billion won (~$750,000) and it wouldn’t feel like a waste. It's unfortunate, but there's often an inverse relationship between actors who are beloved by the public and those appreciated within the industry. That’s something I always find regrettable.”
Another insider added, “The reason production companies love working with Lee Byunghun is because, unlike many other top-tier actors, he's known for not overstepping into the director’s role. Even with rookie directors, he’s the same. He’ll offer ideas and discuss things beforehand, but once filming starts, he follows the director’s lead without question. And he’s incredibly hard-working, he meticulously plans every gesture, movement, and position. If things change on set, he’ll ask for permission and rehearse again to get it right. You’ll hear comments like ‘I saw him in a new light’ or ‘I’ve never seen an actor like that before’ and those sentiments continue to be shared, even long after the project ends.”
