Current Indonesian President: Elected in 2024, former military officer. There were already concerns about his stance on human rights.
Recent Controversy: The Indonesian government recently revised a labor law originally enacted in 2020. The changes heavily favor corporations.

Key Changes in the Law:

- The law, which previously encouraged permanent employment, now allows indefinite non-permanent (contract) employment. Companies are now essentially being given the green light to hire workers as non-permanent rather than full-time employees.

- Minimum wage standards can now be adjusted regionally at the discretion of local authorities, making it legal for employers to pay less than the national minimum wage.

- Severance pay systems have been reduced.

- Legal working hours have been extended.

- Environmental regulations for businesses have been relaxed.

- Land restrictions for businesses have been lifted, which is especially controversial due to issues involving indigenous land rights.

- Union agreements have also been weakened, effectively suppressing union activity.

Government’s Position: These changes are necessary to boost business activity, attract foreign investment, and increase job creation.

What sparked public outrage:
In response, protests erupted in front of Jakarta’s city hall.
During a confrontation between citizens and riot police, a delivery driver named Afan Kurniawan was caught in the crowd and fell while trying to avoid the chaos.
A riot control vehicle ran over him, and he d**d.
Now, large crowds have gathered to mourn Afan during his funeral procession.

Afan was born in 2004 and was the breadwinner of a 7-member family.


This is how the situation in Indonesia would be if it was applied to Korea

The former military officer–turned–dictator president is showering corporations with benefits while brutally cracking down on workers. It's reached a level that can only be described as a human rights violation.
In Korea, everyone except the ultra-privileged elites is struggling. Prices keep rising, but wages barely move.
Most people are surviving on monthly salaries of just 1 to 2 million won. Then a few days ago, there was a regular session at the National Assembly, like usual.

But after the session ended, suddenly a military band and groups of students were brought in to perform at the National Assembly.
The lawmakers started getting all excited and literally got up and danced in the middle of the assembly. The scene was filmed and spread online.
People were already fed up, barely getting by, so when they saw that, they were like, “What the hell are they so happy about, dancing around like that?”

Then, less than a week later, it was suddenly announced that lawmakers would be getting an extra 20 million won per month for “housing and living expenses.”
Not 20 million a year, 20 million won a month.
People were furious and started protesting.

But the government sent in police and forcefully cracked down on the demonstrations.
In the chaos, a 21-year-old delivery rider (born in 2004), who was working for Coupang Eats, happened to be passing near the protest on his motorcycle. His bike fell over in the commotion, and he fell to the ground.

Then, from about 10 meters away, an armored police vehicle that had been brought in suddenly sped up and ran him over.
According to witnesses, the driver never even hit the brakes, and the young man was crushed under the vehicle.
He was taken to the hospital, but he didn’t survive.

People exploded online, but even that was censored.
Now people can’t even communicate in their own language online, so they’ve started using phrases like “yeoshideul;; jigeum jot doem” to get around the filters.



"Indonesian citizens are suffering from poverty, while lawmakers are dancing after approving a $30,000 pay raise. In anger over this, protests by the citizens are intensifying and spreading nationwide."
