[theqoo] 'TENNIS HAT THIEF' CEO'S LATE APOLOGY... I'M ASKING FOR A SECOND CHANCE

The statement begins with, “There’s been a huge controversy online over a recent incident at a tennis match. Of course, it’s all because of a certain famous hat.”

He continues, “Yes, I took it. I took it quickly. But as I’ve always said, life is first-come, first-served. Some people might not like that, but please, let’s not turn a single hat into a global scandal. It’s just a hat. If you had been faster, you would’ve taken it.”

He then adds, “Regarding the online hate, I want to emphasize once again that insulting a public figure can come with legal consequences. Any defamatory comments, slander, or threats may lead to lawsuits.”

As the controversy grew, Szczerek posted an apology on the company page of "GoWork" on August 31.

In the post, Szczerek wrote, “It was only after reading countless comments that I realized I truly deserve the contempt and criticism I’ve received.” He continued, “I’m begging for a second chance to repay the debt I owe to the boy and to society, and to restore the honor of both myself and my homeland, Poland.”

He also stated that he would put the hat he took up for auction and donate the proceeds to charity.
