[PC stories/KPOP takes] I'M LOOKING FORWARD JISOO'S FULL ALBUM

People look forward to full albums over minis because there’s a lot more care put into it, in order to tell a story / make a statement. In terms of blackpink solo’s albums so far, I think most would probably place ruby at #1 although that may change based on everyone’s preferences. I think what makes ruby a stand out was that it had a perfect mix of everything, from showcasing jennie’s authentic colour as well as discovering new sides of her. It’s a strong first album and the collaborations were well-chosen. I think it excites the audience to see what more she could bring next.

Rosie was also great, pleased to see her emotional songwriting but it was more linear (which isn’t a bad thing) because it’s about a specific period of time in her life. I think each member definitely has their own distinguishable sound and I think rosé single album (gone and on the ground) was a stepping stone into her next title tracks: number one girl and toxic till the end. Which I think personally adds to the success of apt because it’s something the public didn’t expect from her and it worked in her favour. This is why it would be nice to see rosé experiment with new sounds for her next album, which we got to see a bit with drinks or coffee although at the same time, I’m still a sucker for ballads.

Whereas, for alter ego, it seems like an experiment album and it’s understandable especially for a first album, I’m looking forward to her documentary which I hope we get to see the making of ae because I feel like she had fun with it. We got to see her do well with slower songs like dream and moonlight floor. rockstar was a good intro, new women and born again felt fresh for lisa but I was slightly let down by futw especially since it’s the last single. I understand it was more hard-hitting, performance-based (to highlight her stage presence) but the execution of the song and mv could have been better. I think she could have leaned into something more dance oriented (her biggest strength) and somehow push herself whilst avoiding another concept of rich/money. She should lean towards the execution for new woman, born again and dream because those were chef’s kiss.

And that leaves us left with Jisoo. Amortage is a very k-pop coded album where it had a clear concept and visuals that go well with it. I think it shows her potential especially since she didn’t have a lot of time and the concept of film montage felt fitting considering that’s what she’s been doing all last year. Based on Jisoo’s interactions with fans / sharing spoilers, I get the sense that she’s quite an indecisive person which actually makes me hopeful because I hope she takes her time to perfect it. It’ll also be interesting to see which audience she’ll focus on (which I think is quite important): korea or global. The other members definitely catered to a more global audience which could either make her standout by doing the opposite or limit herself. If I had to pick a direction myself, I think it would be smart to focus on lyrics, maybe include poetry in there, some storytelling that would resonate well with the audience.
