[PC stories/KPOP takes] K-DRAMAS ARE OVERRATED

I don't get why so many people think K-dramas are better than American shows and I'm not even American.

Most K-dramas are like soap opera : so many repetitive episodes with very little narrative progression before some kind of twist ending that wasn't properly built up. And it's almost always about romance too : school romance, office romance, army romance, spy romance, fantasy romance. Is the audience really ok with that lack of variety?

I also don't like how many of those dramas have inner monologues that are just an exposition of something we're already watching on the screen. There is not much creativity regarding the cinematography either. I've never seen a K-drama with the aesthetics of shows like Euphoria or Black Mirror. Which is really wild when you compare K-dramas with Korean movies. I imagine the talented Korean directors don't want to work in television. Too many actors are also just doing the most and when those who don't have like one expression or two. It's so obvious that they're chosen for looks and not for talent. The last thing is that the censorship is confusing and distracting. Why are knives censored but blood isn't ? How can someone be invested in a dark crime drama if there's no violence ? If you're trying to do crime or horror then actually do it.

When I ask K-dramas fans why exactly they prefer K-dramas to American shows, the only answers I get are because it's not sexually explicit and it's not political. But this has nothing to do with quality. I'd rather watch an explicit HBO show (I can fast forward through the sex scenes anway) and get good plot, acting and cinematography then just watch another K-drama about some rich guy falling in love with a poor girl who will make him a better man.
