If I had to rank it myself:
1. YG - I think they stand out instantly for me if I was looking at it from an overall perspective. First, GD comes to mind, mainly because of his influence in Korea and how even now, the general public still eats up his songs and goes straight to #1. I think until Blackpink arrived, it might have been more confusing but releasing a group where all members are successful is almost impossible and definitely tipped the scale. At least one or two members from the group have songs that did really well e.g. BB - Taeyang (and maybe T.O.P and Daesung), 2NE1 - Park Bom, WINNER - Mino and iKON - Bobby. Not to forget PSY with one of the most viral songs in the world, Gummy with her OST, Lee Hi with multiple hits and more. Although, their newer groups seems to be the least promising out of all three but I could be wrong.
2. SM - Have to start with BOA who dominated in early years especially Japan, then we got Taeyeon, who is the one of the most successful female artist from 2nd gen, just behind IU and now Karina, who has a lot of potential but the company just have to play their cards right. I also think Winter and Ning Ning could release some hit songs because they have good vocals. Kyuhyun, Jonghyun and Baekhyun had at least one well-known song. Whereas, Taemin, D.O. and Kai didn’t reach #1 in charts but at least went viral in the K-Pop community. As well as some NCT members? Sorry, not too familiar. Their strength is definitely within groups but they are also known for talented vocalist. So, I personally think they have the most potential for the future, especially for group members with Taeyeon being the blue print.
3. JYP - I’m not too familiar with their solo artist but the people that did come to mind were Rain (who was popular back then), Baek A Yeon, Sunmi and Baek Yerin. Suzy did well with Dream but that was a collaboration and she is more known as an actress. Nayeon released a standard hit for her debut but the follow up didn’t do quite as well. Although, the narrative would be different if it was idols turned actors because they do well in that category. Honestly, I don’t know what’s happening with JYP in recent years, they seem to have curse when it comes to selecting public friendly songs (minus DAY6) or have their focus just shifted on building stronger fandoms?
Anyway, how would everybody rank this and are there other companies that come to mind when release chart topping soloist?
