Up until now, it was believed that all five NewJeans members' parents were united in their stance with their daughters. However, it has now been revealed for the first time that there were differences of opinion among some of the parents, and that these disagreements escalated into a legal dispute.
The conflict between member A's parents began when one of them, referred to as B, refused to sign the documents required for the "injunction to suspend the exclusive contract" that was filed against NewJeans' agency last year. Since both B and C (A's parents) share all legal rights and authority regarding their daughter, A cannot participate in any lawsuit related to ADOR if even one parent opposes it.
B did not sign the necessary documents, expressing opposition to their daughter A taking legal action against ADOR. Meanwhile, the other parent, C, agreed with their daughter's stance, supporting the termination of her exclusive contract and believing NewJeans should leave ADOR. As a result, C filed a custody lawsuit against their spouse B to remove B's parental authority over A for matters related to the lawsuit.
This case goes beyond a single member's family situation. It shows that the conflict surrounding ADOR and NewJeans has caused divisions even within the members’ families. This is also the first confirmation that there were disagreements among NewJeans' parents, and naturally, attention is now focused on why parent B opposed their daughter's decision.
According to statements from NewJeans' legal representatives and the court during the hearing on the 4th, the family court in charge of the custody matter appears to have ruled in favor of C. This means that the parental authority of B, who opposed the lawsuit, has been restricted, allowing C to act on behalf of their daughter in the legal process. It is not known whether B has filed an appeal.
To sum up,
One of the minor member's parents opposed the lawsuit.
Because minors need consent from both parents to proceed legally, the lawsuit was initially blocked by that opposition.
Then, the parent who supported the lawsuit filed a custody lawsuit against the other parent to gain full legal authority over their child.
The court ruled that the child's own opinion was most important, granting custody rights to the parent who supported the lawsuit.
This isn't exactly a hopeful story. It shows that even when one parent was firmly against it to the point of taking the matter to court, the member herself remained determined to pursue the lawsuit to the very end.
