[PC stories/KPOP takes] COMEBACKS WITH HIGH EXPECTATIONS BUT DIDN'T QUITE PERFORM

I want to ask, what comeback/release do you think the company expected to do well but didn’t quite make it?

Obviously, every company wants each releases from their group to do really well but I feel like you can sometimes tell when a specific comeback is expected to explode / have internal discussions that this is going to be a big ‘hit’. I have two answers and the first one being Baby Monsters ‘Drip’ and I have to base it on how confident YG was when talking about this particular release and the budget they put into it by releasing many MVs etc. Even though it eventually climbed up the charts, I feel like they really wanted it to be their first #1 hit and cement their status. This is something that was common in YG groups but both BM and Treasure have still yet to achieve this. Overall, I liked quite a few songs from the album but was not into making young idols act all cool/hip hop, it’s quite cringe to me.

And the second one is RIIZE’s Odyssey which tbf, I also think deserved more success as it’s a solid album. Similar to BM, they released a lot of MVs or visuals for this album and even made it into a movie so it feels like their team really prepared a lot this time. I think the lead single ‘Fly Up’ was a bit of a hit and miss for everyone which I don’t think the company expected, it almost felt like they wanted to create a popular trend/wave for everyone to join. However, I still think they’re in a good place atm and is one of the more relevant boy groups in Korea but in order to continue building their credibility, they should release a mega hit sooner than later which I can understand is no easy feat.
