I also don't understand this idea that someone writing and producing their own songs means those songs are de facto good. I can paint someone's portrait tomorrow, doesn't mean it'll be the Mona Lisa. Yeah it does mean it's more artistic or whatever but you know what ? Art can be *bad*. Idols are supposed to be trained in singing and dancing, not trained to be producers and songwriters. And that's okay ! Each individual has their own skillset and not everybody can suddenly pull off a Wonder Girls by delivering 8 years after debut an almost entirely self-produced masterpiece like Reboot. If an idol group happens to be formed around a member who is competent at producing and songwriting, that's great. But stop expecting this as a norm for idols because it's just going to give us more songs that sound like they were made in someone's garage.
I just feel like people are lowkey ashamed of listening to kpop and want to be able to clap back on Twitter or Reddit at normies that their idols are actually real artists who write and produce their own songs. But that's their own problem of getting too invested into stanning and making their self-worth about their musical tastes. People like myself only care about having bops to entertain ourselves.
