Maybe it's just me, but I honestly feel uncomfortable watching CxM (Scoups Mingyu from Seventeen) music video for Pretty Woman. In the MV, there are scene of Scoups and Mingyu taking a shower, and showing off their s***ness. In addition, on their Instagram, they often upload thirst trap photos that often go viral on Twitter. They must know that many fans like them when they look s**y, that's why they also add provocative scenes in the MV.
And the point that makes me uncomfortable is, they are the ones who showing-off s***ness, take half-naked photos and take a shower. but in the MV, it's the women who seem to crowd them at the bar, a woman stop her car for Scoups to get in, a woman tells Mingyu who looks plain to choose clothes as if Mingyu is her doll, a woman pulls Mingyu's hand and makes it look like they just did make out.
Why do they make it seem like these pretty women are h**ny and approach them first, when in reality, they are the ones who like to show-off s***ness? Do they think "oh if you want to be surrounded by lots of women, just look s**y?"
Pretty woman should be a song that praises beautiful women in an elegant way, but in this MV it seems like beautiful women are crazy about handsome men. Is this how shallow they view women? As someone who follows Seventeen, it's strange that the other members had to discuss with female staff to avoid the song coming off as m***gynistic. Scoups and Mingyu admitted that they added a lot of their own ideas to this album, so they were also involved in the production process. They should realize that not all fangirls like them because they look s**y. There are still many fans who like their talent and work alone. It's a shame, in an era where KPOP fans are more aware of women's issues, there are still MVs like this.
