According to the Army Training Center and related sources on the 23rd, a staff sergeant identified as A, who is assigned to the Army Training Center, asked Woozi (real name Lee Jihoon), a member of the idol group SEVENTEEN who was a trainee at the time, to arrange a singer to perform a congratulatory song at his wedding in September.
In response, Woozi arranged for a well-known ballad singer, referred to as B, and B performed the wedding song at A’s wedding in October.
An official from the Army Training Center told Chosun.com in a phone interview, “There was absolutely no coercion. Our internal investigation confirmed that Woozi complied with A’s request out of goodwill,” adding, “There was no illegality or violation of regulations.”
In response to concerns that “from a trainee’s perspective, a request from a military superior could feel coercive,” the official said, “The request was reportedly made toward the end of the six-week training period, during which enough time had passed for a close relationship to form between the two.”
The Army Training Center also firmly stated that there are currently no plans to discipline A, nor any plans to separate A and Woozi.
The official added, “We judge that this does not even rise to the level requiring disciplinary action, nor does it meet the criteria for such measures.”
