Actor Jo Jinwoong's real name is Jo Won-jun. Jo Jinwoong is his father's name.
Jo Jinwoong celebrates his birthday on the 3rd day of the 3rd lunar month. However, he was born on April 6, 1976. (Converting that date to the lunar calendar gives the 7th day of the 3rd month.)
There is almost no information about Jo Jinwoong's high school years. Seoul, Bundang, Busan... There are no precise records of his alma mater. Only reports indicate he was (forcibly) transferred to at least two different schools.
Jo Jinwoong changed his name and concealed his birthday. He erased his high school years spent in Seoul and emphasized his image as a native Busan resident. What exactly did he want to hide?
Jo Jinwoong's teenage years were stained with crime. It wasn't mere delinquency. He committed serious crimes during high school, received juvenile protection measures, and was sent to a juvenile detention center.
Dispatch confirmed Jo Jinwoong's criminal history. Informants stated, "Jo Jinwoong was a gang leader. He stole vehicles with his group. He was also involved in SA."
According to the tipsters, Jo Jinwoong's gang primarily targeted vehicles that were temporarily parked. He explained that they stole, drove, and abandoned at least three vehicles. He then got his hands on stolen goods.
A tipster stated, "He stole cars left idling on the roadside," adding, "He committed all sorts of crimes while driving without licenses. They got caught using stolen goods."
Based on continuous tips, Dispatch investigated the Jo Jinwoong case. It was confirmed he faced criminal trial in his second year of high school. The charges at the time were robbery and rape under the Special Act on the Punishment of Major Crimes (as of 1994).
The informant stated, "Jo Jinwoong's gang attempted SA in a stolen vehicle,” adding, "Jo Jinwoong and others were sent to a juvenile detention center for this incident. He spent half of his third year in a correctional facility."
Jo Jinwoong enrolled in Kyungsung University's Department of Theater and Film in 1996. It remains unclear whether he repeated a year or retook the entrance exam. However, informants characterized his return to his hometown as ‘crime laundering,’ criticizing it as a choice to erase his serious high school crimes.
