[theqoo] MIN HEEJIN: "I WON'T BE FORMING A GIRL GROUP FOR NOW. MY NEXT MOVE WILL BE A BOY GROUP"

Min Heejin announces she is currently producing a boy group.

On December 4, Min Hee-jin appeared on the YouTube channel “Genre Yeouido” and shared her future plans.

Min said, “Work is very important to me. It always was, but I wasn’t good at enjoying it. Even when NewJeans became successful, I felt depressed and empty. I poured out so much that there was a sense of hollowness.” She continued, “Going through this absurd situation, this fight, I’ve strangely learned a lot. I came to understand the value of work, why it matters, why I’m fighting, what the essence of the fight is, and how I need to overcome things in my work going forward.”

Min stated, “I want to propose a new style of entertainment management. I want to shorten contract periods. People should work together because they want to, not because they’re bound. The standard contract still has many loopholes, it’s written from the employer’s perspective. Many young kids and their parents have to sign without proper knowledge if they want to become idols. The people who made the standard contract aren’t well-versed in on-the-ground operations. I want to propose improving the standard contract from a practical standpoint.”

She continued, “That’s why I want to run a label. It’s not simply about making money. If you do good work, the money follows. Some things that felt experimental before, rather than forcing long-term contracts, we should shorten them and make both sides want to stay together. The company should be one that the members need, and the members should give the company a reason to need them. They should also gain the competitiveness to present themselves that way.”

She added, “Sometimes I wonder if I’m fighting this ridiculous fight because we’re at a point of advancing and shifting paradigms. I want to take on new challenges like that.” She also revealed, “I don’t think I’ll be making another girl group next. Maybe someday, but not right now. If I do it, I’ll make a boy group. That’s just my style. If a boy group comes out, then maybe a girl group after that.”

Min concluded, “I have ideas in my head about how things could unfold in new ways. I see the gaps and missing pieces in this market, and I think filling them could create an interesting impact.”
