[PC stories/Kpop takes] WHAT IS IT THAT MID-TIER/NUGU GROUPS LACK?

There are so many cases of the nugu/mid-tier group(s) that got away. A lot of the fans celebrate their discography, visuals, whatever else but they just can't seem to hit big. In my head, some examples might be: Purple Kiss, wooah, LIGHTSUM, CLASS:Y, maybe even Loossemble untimely disbandment. I'm not a huge boy group fan but please drop your cases of this in the comments

Do you think there is a common thread between these groups? When the music is good and members are pretty, why can't they hit big? The industry is crowded for sure, but there were still cases like FIFTY FIFTY, STAYC, Or even Kiss of life.

Imo, what makes groups from larger companies succeed is name recognition and company stans. A group from small company is not given this advantage of having people willing to listen or stan just because they are dongsaeng of another group. But then, what happened with LIGHTSUM, who is from CUBE who has idle, CLC, Pentagon, and 4Minute in their list or artists.

So what makes them fail? Is there any specific items which a small group or agency can do to guarantee success? I remember recently, people talked about how HITGS is pushed so hard, but it's not translating to much despite their agency trying so much, and it might take a toll on them financially. I'm interested what you guys think. Imo, I think a smart agency will focus on securing a loyal fanbase in the first 3-6 months and then focus on creating a viral moment. Idk if it's the cheat key to success, but it's gotta be better than what a lot are doing lol
