According to album distributor YG Plus, BTS's fifth studio album ‘ARIRANG’ recorded 4.06 million pre-orders as of the 22nd. This achievement was reached just one week after pre-orders began on the 16th.
This figure surpasses the cumulative sales of the group's previous best-selling album, their fourth studio album ‘MAP OF THE SOUL : 7’.
That album reached 3.42 million pre-orders within a week during its 2020 pre-sale period and later surpassed 5 million copies (based on Circle Chart data). The new album is driving up pre-orders at an even faster pace. Particularly, with ‘Arirang’ still about two months away from release, attention is focused on the record it will set by the time pre-orders close.
Interest in BTS's comeback is evident across various metrics.
Following the announcement of the new album release and world tour on the global superfan platform Weverse, membership sign-ups surged approximately threefold. On the global audio and music streaming platform Spotify, the new album surpassed 1 million pre-saves within just two days of the pre-save launch, and broke 2 million pre-saves on the fourth day.
All eyes are on whether they will surpass the record for the most pre-saves ever set by Taylor Swift for her 12th studio album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ (approximately 6 million).
