[theqoo] SPENDING 80 MILLION WON ON IDOLS... WIFE NEGLECTS DAUGHTER FOR FANGIRLING, CAN THIS BE GROUND FOR DIVORCE?

(T/N: 80 million won = ~55K USD)

A man shared his story of wanting to divorce his wife, who became so obsessed with idol fandom that she even opened an overdraft account to follow singers around.

On the 5th, Mr. A, a man in his 40s with a 10-year-old daughter, shared his story and sought advice on YTN Radio's ‘Attorney Jo In-seop's Counseling Corner’.

According to Mr. A, his wife became deeply obsessed with a male idol group member from a TV survival show two years ago and has been actively pursuing fandom activities. Initially, he thought it was just a way to relieve childcare stress, but the situation grew increasingly serious over time.

Mr. A stated, “My wife neglected taking our daughter to and from school while chasing the idol's schedule, and she also became lax about basic childcare and housework like meal preparation. Then recently, I found a loan statement for an overdraft account in my name deep inside the bedroom closet. I discovered she had secretly taken my seal and obtained the loan.”

He continued, “She even put up birthday ads for the idol on a Gangnam Station billboard and bought 500 copies of the same album to win tickets to a fan signing event.” He revealed, “Combining the loan and credit card debt, it already exceeded 80 million won.”

However, instead of admitting fault, his wife reportedly shouted back, “Money can be earned again, but if my oppa's rankings drop, will you take responsibility?”

Mr. A stated, “Hearing that, I felt we could no longer live together,” adding, “I decided to pursue divorce and obtain custody.”

Attorney Shin Jin-hee of Shinsegye Law Firm stated, “This goes beyond a simple hobby. She is completely neglecting her basic household duties and child-rearing responsibilities, and is even causing significant financial damage to the household. This constitutes a serious reason making it difficult to continue the marriage.”

1. Isn't this obvious? As a parent, if you give birth to a child, you must take responsibility

2. At that level, he's just an idol out of reach, it's practically mental infidelity... Add neglecting the family and racking up huge debt on top of that, and it's obviously grounds for divorce

3. This is mental disease... I feel bad for the husband

4. Of course they need to split. She needs to fangirl but in a realistic way. This is a disease

5. That's just a case of completely misplaced priorities. You have a child, yet you're swiping 80 M won on credit cards to chase after an idol? You're out of your mind. That's grounds for divorce.

6. Why even get married then? She should've lived her life and used her own money for fangirling

7. No but how crazy do you have to be to reach this level?

8. I saw this on TV just now... This is crazy

9. Can she get a loan in my husband's name with a personal seal?

10. No but no matter how much you like these idols, your family should come firstã…
