Gabi (24), a member of K-Pop girl group BLACKSWAN, played a prominent role as a cultural ambassador between South Korea and Brazil.
On February 23, Gabi attended the Korea-Brazil state banquet hosted by President Lee Jaemyung at the Blue House’s State Guest House, sharing the event with government officials and business leaders from both countries. The scene quickly drew attention, particularly when Brazilian President Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva greeted attendees and kissed Gabi on the back of her hand, showing a special gesture of warmth.
President Lula posted the moment of his greeting with Gabi on his personal Instagram, and by the morning of February 26, the post had exceeded 1.2 million views. A video he shared using BLACKSWAN’s song Cat & Mouse as background music has surpassed 5.6 million views, raising expectations for the group’s song to become a surprise hit.
BLACKSWAN’s agency, DR Music, said, “We were both surprised and honored to be suddenly invited to such an unexpected event. If this can contribute to cultural exchange between Korea and Brazil in the future, it would be a great privilege. Gabi is ready to attend any event where she is called upon.”
Gabi’s prominence at the event is partly due to First Lady RosĂ¢ngela da Silva, a long-time K-Pop fan. The First Lady had shown significant interest in Korean K-Pop artists even before her visit to South Korea and was reportedly delighted that BLACKSWAN’s Gabi is Brazilian. On February 22, ahead of President Lula’s official visit, the First Lady met Gabi in Gangnam, Seoul, for a private meal to strengthen their acquaintance.
The Brazilian First Lady later shared a photo on her official Instagram account showing her standing alongside Gabi and sharing a friendly gesture.
BLACKSWAN is a global four-member K-Pop girl group composed entirely of foreign members. In 2024, the group was appointed promotional ambassadors for the Yongsan War Memorial.
Gabi was selected in 2022 through DR Music’s global audition, which had a 4,000-to-1 competition rate. Born in 2002 in Santa Catarina, Brazil, she is currently the only Brazilian active in a K-Pop girl group.
