One of my favorite idols was cast through Instagram DM for their visuals alone. I know they still had to go through auditions and prove themselves as a trainee, but this modern-day version of street casting still leaves me with a weird feeling. They had to have enough talent to be an idol, yes, but to me, the idols who tried their best and went through auditions (sometimes multiple attempts of them) seem more "worthy" of their place to me. And deciding on a whim to become an idol just because someone said you're good looking also seems off. Some trainees have wanted to be an idol for years and practiced before their audition, while these DM-cast idols had likely never thought of doing it before and are just joining on because they can.
