[PC stories/KPOP takes] IS IT TIME FOR MEOVV TO...

Is it time for Meovv to cater to a global audience properly? They’ve been consistently releasing comebacks in hopes of a big hit in Korea and even though, hands up is their most successful song as of now, it still does not place them in the competitive sphere of top girl groups, along with other 5th generation girl groups who are in the same boat. I think the more repetitive attempts you make to click with the public, the harder it is to become established and would be placed in the lower end instead because the audience can get bored very quickly.

I chose Meovv because I think they have the most potential to do well internationally. First of all, I was listening to their songs and instantly thought that Gawon’s vocal tone is more attractive for an international audience rather than for Koreans if that makes sense. Then, quite a few members also speak in various languages and Gawon and Ella’s looks and background would resonate well. Sooin has the mysterious vibe but a great dancer, Anna being the visual and it all balances out with Narin having a Korean background. (which is actually necessary) yet talented at the same time. Their company being The Black Label also helps especially after the success of their peers (Rosé) and songs like Golden that have gained massive global recognition which increases their chances.

They’re in the right place but just need the right time to blow up (before it’s too late). Most groups try to appeal with the Korean public first and once this is achieved, it’s only right to expand further. But this doesn’t always have to be the case and on the top of my head, BTS is a good example. It’s not like they weren’t known in Korea during the beginning but they weren’t exactly topping the charts either. And in my opinion, most people think Fire was the song that started it all but I think Dope was a better representation of their potential in terms of global appeal. And everyone basically knows what happened after.

Going back to Meovv, I think they have a good discography so far and their MVs / production are also well-made and feel modern enough. I think they made a lot of noise during their debut teasers but that’s slowly drifting away so it’s time to try and bring that back. However, they’ve been attending fashion weeks which also suits them well and helps with gathering more attention for the group.

Overall, it would be nice for them to start releasing GOOD stand-out english singles without losing their sound and maybe do a small tour in theatres so they could gain more experience in performing because they also have potential to be more than great in this area.
