A few days ago, the final hearing was held.
The prosecutor recommended five years as a s** offender registration and three years in prison, plus prison labor (there’s also a 150,000 won fine, but that’s minor).
The final sentencing is scheduled for mid-April. (People are saying that if the prosecutor’s recommendation is at that level, even if the sentence is reduced, it will likely still be at least two years in prison.)
Normally, sentencing is scheduled about two weeks after the final hearing, but they asked Somali whether he wanted a speedy sentencing, and then deliberately set it for mid-April, about two months later ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
As for s** offender registration, Korea shares its s** offender database with the United States, so if someone is registered as a s** offender in Korea, they are automatically placed on the s** offender list in the U.S. too.
In a worst-case scenario, there’s even a possibility he could end up serving additional prison time in the U.S. ㅋㅋㅋ
Regarding prison time in Korea, this wouldn’t be ordinary prison labor attached to a general crime. Since it’s a case involving a s** offender plus prison labor, he would be assigned work in relative isolation from other inmates, meaning he could be given comparatively tougher tasks rather than factory work or cleaning prison bathrooms.
On top of that, his phone was seized as evidence and permanently confiscated.
ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
