Singer BoA, 40 years old, has established her own agency and embarked on an independent career after parting ways with SM Entertainment, with which she had been affiliated for 25 years.
On the 3rd, BApal Entertainment, founded by BoA, stated, “BoA chose a new structure to more clearly realize her musical direction. This is part of a reorganization aimed at focusing more on the artist’s inherent color and inner essence rather than external changes.”
BApal Entertainment combines the meanings of “BoA” and “friend” (pal), signifying the company’s goal of being built together with BoA and her fans.
BApal Entertainment added, “We will respect BoA’s profound musical world and vision, and build an optimized environment to flexibly pursue her desired direction.”
SM Entertainment announced in January that it had terminated its exclusive contract with BoA, concluding a 25-year partnership.
BoA debuted under SM Entertainment in 2000 at the age of 13. She later expanded beyond the domestic music scene to achieve immense popularity in Japan. BoA was personally selected by Lee Soo-man, SM’s founder and former chief producer. Recognized for her achievements as a singer, she was appointed as a non-executive director of SM Entertainment in 2014. She later demonstrated her producing capabilities by overseeing the production of NCT Wish, SM’s new group.
