Monthly Boyfriend, starring Jisoo of BLACKPINK, has debuted in the global Top 7.
According to the OTT platform ranking site FlixPatrol on the 8th, Monthly Boyfriend ranked 7th in Netflix’s global TV show category (including English-language shows) the previous day.
The show entered the Top 10 in 52 countries, including South Korea, Brazil, India, Hong Kong, and Vietnam.
Monthly Boyfriend is a romantic comedy about Mirae (Jisoo), a webtoon producer exhausted by real life, who fulfills her romantic fantasies by subscribing to and experiencing relationships through a virtual dating simulation. The title Monthly Boyfriend refers to the virtual dating subscription service that appears in the drama.
The drama was released on the 6th and has received mixed reactions amid strong public interest.
A major point of criticism has been Jisoo’s acting, with some viewers expressing disappointment, saying things like, “Her gestures and facial expressions feel awkward,” and “It seems difficult to fully immerse in her emotions.”
On the other hand, many viewers have given positive evaluations, noting, “You can clearly see the effort Jisoo put in,” “This is the most impressive performance among the works she’s appeared in so far,” and “It was much more entertaining than expected.” These viewers highlighted her effort and potential.
