Top-tier group ENHYPEN and their agency BELIFT LAB are drawing attention for proposing an unprecedented activity system in the history of Korean idols.
Member Heeseung will transition into a solo artist through his current agency, BELIFT LAB. ENHYPEN will be reorganized from a seven-member group into a six-member group. Rather than being the result of “conflict or discord” surrounding a top-tier group, it has become what is effectively the first case of choosing “coexistence.”
The “win-win declaration” by Heeseung, ENHYPEN, and their agency BELIFT LAB, completely breaking the conventional expectations of fandoms and the industry, was made official on March 10 via the global fandom platform Weverse.
Regarding this unprecedented “mutually agreed independence,” BELIFT LAB stated:
“We had in-depth discussions with the members about the direction ENHYPEN should take moving forward, and through this process we confirmed that Heeseung has a very clear musical direction he wishes to pursue. We decided to respect that by allowing him to pursue his path as a solo artist.”
The explanation behind the decision, “Heeseung did not want to put only his own ambitions first within the team, and the other members also cared deeply about supporting him”, has sparked a fresh reaction both inside and outside the K-pop industry. One industry insider commented, “It’s as if the entire group recognized Heeseung’s personal musical vision, and the agency institutionally supported that choice,” adding, “It can be read as a symbolic moment showing that K-pop has entered a more mature stage.”
It is extremely rare for a member to “become independent as a soloist” while remaining under the same agency. In the past, groups that experienced member changes typically did so because the member left the company or their contract ended.
The approach BELIFT LAB chose this time is a model in which the group brand ENHYPEN and the solo artist brand Heeseung operate simultaneously under the same label. This could become a precedent for future idol management systems. BELIFT LAB also expressed hope that “this decision will become a new opportunity for both ENHYPEN and solo artist Heeseung to take another leap forward.”
Heeseung also shared his own statement that day, communicating directly with fans.
He said, “Because of the members with whom I shared countless emotions, and because of ENGENE (the fandom name), I was able to take step-by-step approaches toward a dream that once felt unreachable.” He expressed sincere gratitude and promised to reunite with fans on stage soon through a solo album.
