Sajaegi (illegal music viral marketing)

A broker attempted to extort money through threats and was sued; during that process, it was specified that there had been illegal sajaegi marketing.

Digital sajaegi is strictly defined as an illegal act. 'Article 26 of the Music Industry Promotion Act' defines digital sajaegi as when persons related to music or video industries engaged in production, import, or distribution unfairly purchase or cause related parties to unfairly purchase music products for the purpose of increasing sales. Violating this can result in imprisonment for up to 2 years or a fine of up to 20 million won.

Representative Attorney Noh Jong-eon stated, "Calling 'digital sajaegi' viral marketing is no different from calling illegal acts legal," and added, "The fact that there is no history of criminal punishment for sajaegi cannot be grounds for legality, and in the case of A's ruling, it clearly rules that sajaegi marketing existed."
