[theqoo] THE LEGENDARY AFRICAN CHIEF WHO ENDED CHILD MARRIAGE

1. Theresa Kachindamoto, the first female chief appointed in the African region of Malawi.

2. The reason the UN and the international community took notice of this African woman is that as soon as she took office as chief, she completely abolished the culture of "child marriage" that existed in the tribal society.

3. This harmful practice, passed down through generations, was a culture that forced young girls (ages 7–10) to have s****l relations with older men and prepare them for marriage.

4. Since its abolition in 2016, over 850 cases of child marriage have been nullified, and more than 3,000 cases have been caught.

5. She didn't stop at banning child marriage, but gathered more than 50 village chiefs under her jurisdiction to sign a pact abolishing child marriage, and immediately dismissed chiefs who continued to secretly enforce child marriage.

6. She sent all rescued girls and boys back to school, and if parents could not afford tuition due to poverty, she personally took care of it, using her own money or a sponsorship network to ensure they could finish their studies.

7. The UN, upon learning of this, showed great support for Chief Theresa Kachindamoto, producing and distributing a related video worldwide.

8. Follow-up research is being conducted to apply it to other African regions.

9. Known as the 'Marriage Terminator', she saved thousands of girls and even changed the constitution (raising the legal marriage age to 18).

10. She passed away in August 2025 at the age of 66.
