On the 19th, according to reporting by The Fact, VIVIZ (Eunha, SinB, Umji), Lee Mujin, and BE’O notified their agency, Big Planet Made Entertainment, of the termination of their exclusive contracts. The reason cited is a serious breach of contract and the resulting breakdown of trust. Both sides had tried to obtain a satisfactory explanation from CEO Cha, but ultimately failed to restore the relationship.
CEO Cha is reportedly unable to accept the notice of contract termination from VIVIZ, Lee Mujin, and BE’O. However, since it appears clear that Big Planet Made Entertainment is at fault, having become unable to provide even basic support to its artists, the termination is likely to be accepted without major difficulty.
As previously reported by The Fact, Big Planet Made Entertainment is not only in a state of complete capital impairment, but has also failed to settle payments to its artists since the third quarter of last year. Unpaid debts amounting to tens of billions of won have also accumulated with partner companies and staff, making it virtually impossible to support artists’ activities or even produce albums going forward.
Prior to this, SHINee’s Taemin terminated his contract with Big Planet Made Entertainment and announced a new start under Galaxy Corporation, where G-Dragon is affiliated. At the time, Taemin was able to terminate his contract without dispute due to serious fault on the part of CEO Cha. Following that, THE BOYZ, a boy group under another label led by Cha, One Hundred, also notified termination of their exclusive contracts.
With VIVIZ, Lee Mujin, and BE’O now joining the departures, the breakup of CEO Cha Ga-won’s camp, already plagued by issues, is accelerating. Such a simultaneous mass departure of artists is an unprecedented situation.
Regarding this, Big Planet Made Entertainment told The Fact, “No final conclusion has been reached regarding the termination of exclusive contracts for VIVIZ, Lee Mujin, and BE’O. We are doing our best to support the artists’ normal activities.”
