[theqoo][EXCLUSIVE] G-DRAGON, SUING EVEN THE OPERATORS OF THE MEDIA OUTLET WHO REPORTED ON HIS 'ALLEGATIONS'... SCOPE EXPANDS BEYOND HATE COMMENTS

Singer G-Dragon has filed complaints against more than 100 individuals, including malicious commenters, on defamation charges, and it has been confirmed that the scope of the lawsuit as expanded to include operators of online media outlets.

According to the legal community, the ongoing defamation case initiated by G-Dragon’s side reportedly includes some operators of online outlets that previously published speculative or allegation-based reports. Multiple legal sources stated, “In addition to malicious commenters, we understand that the operator of a specific media outlet has recently been included among those being sued.”

The outlet in question had previously published articles raising various suspicions based on claims about G-Dragon’s visits to certain locations. It is a registered periodical and was also involved in a dispute with HYBE and the Press Arbitration Commission in 2023 over its coverage related to BTS.

Following a police investigation, G-Dragon was cleared of all charges, effectively bringing the related allegations to a close.

After the investigation results, G-Dragon’s side announced a firm stance against the spread of false information and defamation, continuing to file complaints against authors of online posts and others. In response, his agency told MHN, “We are currently checking the details,” taking a cautious position.

However, within legal circles, there is also speculation that the agency’s “under review” stance may reflect ongoing internal coordination regarding the scope of the complaints and the level of public disclosure. In particular, there is analysis that a careful approach is being taken given that expanding targets beyond individuals to include content producers could have broader repercussions.

This case is drawing attention as it goes beyond simply addressing malicious comments and may raise broader questions about accountability in the production and distribution of unverified information.
