[instiz] DO YOU ALSO AGREE K-POP HAS SHRUNK?

"I've been seeing K-pop shrinking since two years ago, but it's been shrinking hard this year.. The era of relying on overseas fans and the existing K-pop die-hard fans (the age group from 2nd to 3rd gen) is ending too. Now, if you don't have a solid domestic base, you're screwed, and if you can't grab the quietly silent teen consumer layer, it's basically hopeless. That's how I see it."

original post: here

1. I agree with the take, but I can't think of a solution

2. Just look at the views on music shows, it says it all

3. View counts shrank because users switched from YouTube to TikTok, but tours are massive. Around the time of COVID, everyone was staying home and there were many users. Also, since the teenage population is small to begin with, you should consider the domestic market just for establishing a foothold and aim for overseas markets. K-pop tours are still huge

4. But they still earn just as much money...

5. Teen consumers...?? But teens barely spend any money

6. It’s been ages since the main consumer base for idol culture shifted from teenagers to people in their 20s, so why are you still harping on about teenagers? If they were targeting teenagers, they would have improved the structure where you have to pour hundreds of thousands of won into fan signings or concerts a long time ago

7. Even if the interest level decreased, the spending power has increased

8. As long as the idol industry will stay this distorted structure where you have to spend tens or hundreds of thousands of won to attend fan signing events or concerts, it is difficult to capture all teenagers

9. Yeah... I do think I look a bit shriveled up

10. But even K-pop as a subculture has always been small. But now, everyone seems to have scattered interest
