[theqoo] BTS 'ARIRANG,' CONSECUTIVE #1 2 WEEKS IN A ROW ON BILLBOARD 200... FIRST TIME IN K-POP

On the 5th (local time), Billboard stated in a chart preview article, “BTS’s ‘Arirang’ topped the Billboard 200 chart dated the 11th, securing the number one spot for two consecutive weeks.”

It further explained, “According to the album sales research firm Luminate, 187,000 album units were recorded in the U.S. during the week ending the 2nd of this month.” This represents a 71% drop compared to the 641,000 album units recorded in the first week of release.

The Billboard 200 ranks albums based on ‘units’ that combine sales of physical and digital albums, as well as streaming counts converted into album sales. This week, physical album sales totaled 114,000 copies, marking the second consecutive week at number one on the ‘Top Album Sales’ chart.

This is the first time a K-pop artist has topped the Billboard 200 for two consecutive weeks. The original soundtrack (OST) album for the Netflix animation K-Pop Demon Hunters previously held the number one spot on the Billboard 200 for two non-consecutive weeks.

"Arirang" has held the number one spot for the longest period among the seven BTS albums that have reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The other six albums previously stayed at No. 1 for one week each.

This week, "Arirang" topped the chart, surpassing U.S. rapper Kanye West's (YE) new album "Bully" and U.S. singer-songwriter Melanie Martinez's "Hades."

The title track of "Arirang," "Swim," is expected to remain in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 main singles chart for the week of the 11th, which is set to be announced as early as the 6th.
