It has been revealed that singer and actor Cha Eunwoo, whose total tax liability was previously reported to be in the 20 billion won range, actually paid approximately 13 billion won in taxes.

According to an investigation by Hankyung.com on the 9th, Cha Eunwoo paid the full amount of back taxes assessed by the National Tax Service the previous day. The assessed amount was personal income tax; however, since a refund was issued for the portion that had been double-taxed from the corporate and value-added taxes he had already paid, the actual amount paid was confirmed to be approximately 13 billion won.

It was initially reported that Cha Eunwoo had been notified of a tax assessment in the range of 20 billion won following an intensive tax audit by the Seoul Regional Tax Office in the first half of last year. However, the final amount he actually had to pay turned out to be slightly more than half of that figure.

In response, his agency, Fantagio, took a cautious stance, stating, “It is difficult to confirm.”

The National Tax Service assessed the additional taxes based on its determination that Fantagio had entered into a management service contract with a corporation established by Cha Eun-oo’s mother in an attempt to apply a corporate tax rate, which is lower than the maximum 45% personal income tax rate, to the arrangement.
