Actor and singer Cha Eunwoo received Catholic baptism while fulfilling his military service. His baptismal name is John the Apostle.
According to News1 on the 1st, Cha Eunwoo was baptized into the Catholic faith last month while serving in the military. Currently serving as a corporal in the Ministry of National Defense's military band (fanfare unit), he participated in a ceremony held within the base as part of religious activities, received baptism, and became an official Catholic. His baptismal name is John the Apostle.
Cha Eunwoo's agency, Fantagio, also confirmed to News1 on the same day, "It is true that Cha Eunwoo received Catholic baptism in June."
It is noteworthy that Cha Eunwoo, who had never previously publicly disclosed a specific religious affiliation, has taken his first steps as a formal Catholic following his military service.
Speculation suggests that he may have found greater emotional solace through religion, particularly following the tax-related controversy that arose earlier this year.
Previously, in January, Cha Eunwoo was embroiled in allegations of massive tax evasion concerning the income distribution structure of a one-man agency established by his mother. The National Tax Service reportedly conducted an intensive investigation, deeming the entity a "paper company" that operated without providing actual services, and subsequently issued a notice for the collection of a substantial amount in back taxes.
After receiving the notice, Cha Eunwoo settled the matter in April by paying the full penalty, approximately 13 billion won. He has since quietly focused on his mandatory military service, even receiving confirmation from military authorities that his assignment was legitimate following complaints regarding an allegedly inappropriate posting.
Meanwhile, Cha Eunwoo enlisted for active-duty service in July of last year and is scheduled to be discharged in January 2027.
