[theqoo] [EXCLUSIVE] CHOI SIWON "I WILL NOT TURN A BLIND EYE ON EVIL"... 5 HATE COMMENTORS SUED END UP BEING 'SUJU FAN ACCOUNTS'

Super Junior member Choi Siwon posted a brief message on his X (formerly Twitter) account on July 7, writing, “Silence ends here. I will no longer stand by and tolerate malicious behavior.” The post came after Sisa Journal reported that he had filed lawsuits against 10 malicious commenters in South Korea and had obtained a U.S. court order compelling the disclosure of their identity information.

The six users accused Choi of holding certain political views and argued that he should leave the group. One account describing itself as an “ELF (Super Junior fandom) fan account” wrote, “If you don’t want to be criticized, retire and become a far-right YouTuber.” Another posted, “Leave Super Junior. #ChoiSiwon_OUT.” A different fan account wrote, “I can’t stand watching Super Junior get labeled as far-right because of you. I love Super Junior, but I don’t love you.” Other posts labeled Choi a “misogynist,” “Zionist,” and “MAGA supporter.” Choi’s legal team argued that these posts constituted hate speech and insults.

The four YouTube users Choi sued primarily posted defamatory content. They referred to him as a “pro-insurrection dog” and a derogatory term for Christians, while also spreading false claims that he belonged to a cult rather than a large mainstream church, with some alleging he attended Shincheonji. According to the filing, the spread of such false claims intensified after Choi posted the phrase “Injustice will inevitably perish; collapse will come like crumbling earth” on social media following former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s first-instance sentencing to life imprisonment in February on insurrection-related charges.

In May, Choi filed a civil damages lawsuit against the 10 alleged malicious commenters with the Seoul Central District Court. The following month, he sought discovery in a U.S. court to identify the anonymous defendants. His legal team argued that the comments went far beyond differences of opinion, amounting to indiscriminate personal attacks that caused him severe mental and emotional distress while seriously damaging both his personal reputation and his professional standing as a member of Super Junior.

1. I feel like you can only write those things from a fan's perspective...

2. So he's not suing his real haters...

3. Usually, when people don't care about you, they would just stop giving you attention

4. I don't think those people damaged his reputation though

5. If not for Suju fans, who even cares about him?

6. Wow

7. So those are his own fans

8. So he didn't file a criminal charge for insult or defamation, but just a civil lawsuit for damages...

9. It seems like they're doing this because they're worried he might affect the group, but it's just the fans who are getting frustrated. Let's be honest, how much interest could the general public really have in Choi Siwon? They'd probably just think of him as a dog. It's only because they're Super Junior fans who've been spending money and cheering him on all this time that they're even writing posts like this

10. They've probably been spending money on Suju their whole life. What are they supposed to do? The agency or the members should be the ones to stop him
