[theqoo] SURPRISINGLY, HEARTS2HEARTS CARMEN ISN'T MUSLIM

"Judging by the photos her parents posted on Instagram, her religion is Hinduism. Since Indonesia requires religion to be listed on ID cards and being non-religious is effectively illegal there, it is impossible for him to be non-religious. Her favorite Korean food is samgyeopsal, and she chose pork when asked to choose between “pork soup vs. beef soup,” so she is not Muslim. Since she is Hindu, it is presumed that she does not eat beef."

It's just that Islam is the most widely practiced religion in Indonesia.

They say it's not like in some Middle Eastern countries where you have to be Muslim no matter what.

She's been misunderstood as Muslim and unfairly criticized, but she said she's Hindu.

(She's from a region in Indonesia where Hinduism is the predominant religion.)

original post: here

1. I'm more surprised that being non-religious in Indonesia isn't legally recognized.  It really doesn't matter what she believes in

2. Being non-religious is illegal????

3. When I was learning world geography, I made sure to memorize that Indonesia is a multi-religious country, not just an Islamic oneㅋㅋㅋ

4. Why did I think that she was Thai?

5. So she's Hindu!

6. I think I heard that if an Indonesia person says they have no religion, it's seen as if they have no thoughts, as if they lack a fundamental foundation. So, if you're not religious, you might as well just say you're Confucian

7. So she's Indonesian? It's my first time learning about this

8. Globally speaking, countries like South Korea, where people with no religious affiliation make up the largest group, are actually in the minority, so it's not particularly surprising that being non-religious is illegal

9. It's ridiculous that she was criticized just for the possibility that she might be Muslim in the first place... There are many countries and regions overseas where religion is simply taken for granted. Let's at least develop enough social awareness to realize that it's rude to dismiss other cultures as "strange" or "backward"...

10. Isn't she from from Bali, right? Bali is a Hindu region.
