Actress Ha Young’s agency has addressed allegations that her great-grandfather was a pro-Japanese collaborator.

Ha Young’s agency, Beasters Entertainment, told SPOTV News on the 10th, “It is true that her great-grandfather was Ahn Sang Ho,” but denied the allegations circulating online that he had collaborated with the Japanese colonial government, stating that they were “completely unfounded.”

Ha Young has previously revealed on various variety shows that she comes from a four-generation family of doctors. In particular, on KBS2’s Problem Child in House on the 7th, she said her great-grandfather was one of the first people to open a Western-medicine clinic in Hanyang (present-day Seoul).

She said, “After studying medicine in Japan, he opened one of the first Western-style medical clinics in Hanyang, and he treated Emperor Gojong.”

Following these remarks, speculation spread across social media and online communities that Ha Young’s great-grandfather was Ahn Sang Ho.

Ahn Sang Ho is known as the first Korean to obtain a Japanese medical license. After returning to Korea, he was appointed as a court physician to Emperor Sunjong. He is also reportedly known for personally treating Emperor Gojong alongside a Japanese doctor when Gojong collapsed in 1919.
