In this regard, a film representative told OSEN, "The fundraising was conducted after the film was already completed to cover the costs of producing merchandise for the GV (Guest Visit) and hosting autograph sessions," adding, "100% of the film's production costs were covered by Director Jang Dongyoon's own money. The film was absolutely not produced using fans' money."

However, following the announcement of Jang Dongyoon's marriage, it came to light that 'Nuruk', his feature directorial debut starring Kim Seungyoon, had conducted a crowdfunding campaign for about a month (from November to December of last year) prior to its release, raising approximately 26.35 million won (~19K USD).

Notably, backers who contributed 100,000 won (~72 USD) or more were reportedly offered perks such as invitations to a 'Nuruk' GV session and the chance to attend an autograph signing event with Director Jang Dongyoon; this led to reactions suggesting that fans had essentially played a supporting role in a project where the couple collaborated.

At the same time, however, some have argued that the couple's personal relationship and the film's crowdfunding campaign should be viewed as separate matters. Given that a film representative revealed the production costs for 'Nuruk' were covered entirely by Jang Dongyoon's own funds, fan reactions appear to be divided.

2. So basically, he used fans' money to host GV events and then took his girlfriend along to him, and the promotional costs were included in the production budget anyway. Is he just playing games with words?

4. That sort of thing is usually part of the marketing budget, and ultimately that counts as production cost, so there's some truth to it, I guess..
